Fadi Hanna was charged in May with assault by contact, a class C misdemeanor. He was placed on deferred adjudication probation, which included anger management classes, according to the district attorney’s office.
Hanna’s LinkedIn page states that she was named the campus’ teacher of the year for the 2023-2024 school year, which coincided with the time she allegedly grabbed the 9-year-old student. A January 2024 Facebook post from Woodcreek Elementary School confirmed that he was a finalist for this honor.
The Texas Education Agency is investigating Hanna. According to the agency, Hanna holds three Texas Educator Certifications: Core Subjects with STR, Special Education, and English as a Second Language. All three certifications expire in 2028.
Prior to working at Woodcreek Elementary School, Hannah spent one year as a special education teacher in Fort Bend ISD. Prior to my career in education, I worked in the oil and gas industry for at least seven years.
A Katy ISD police report shared with KPRC 2’s Rilwan Balogun states that police received an anonymous tip that a student was being subjected to “physical and emotional abuse” by staff at Woodcreek Elementary School. are.
Police then received a video that allegedly shows the teacher “attempting to punch the student in the face, then grabbing (the student) by the collar of his shirt and attempting to drag him across the table.”
Cellphone video taken by a witness in the classroom showed Hanna lunging across the table toward the student, missing him, and then trying to lunge again.
“He wasn’t disruptive in any way, but he was still violent towards my child,” said Daniela Reinfeld, a parent of the student. “This speaks volumes about how he treated these kids.”
During the investigation, Reinfeld said, Hanna told him, “I’ve already left the entire school district. Please don’t destroy the career I built from the ground up.”
“He didn’t apologize or even try to explain what happened,” Reinfeld said of receiving the message. “He was just reaching out for his own benefit.”
“The safety and security of our students, staff, and staff is our top priority at Katy ISD,” the district said in a statement to KPRC 2. “The individual is no longer an employee of Katy ISD. An investigation was initiated after school officials became aware of this. At a later date, when additional evidence became available, the individual resigned during the course of the investigation.”
The District Attorney’s Office confirmed that Hanna met the terms of his probation.
