In our latest survey, we asked SwimSwam readers which NCAA tournament would be the earliest to be held before midseason invites arrive.
Question: Which midseason invite produces the most nation-leading times?
result
Tennessee Invitational – 35.0% Texas Invitational – 30.9% Wolfpack Elite Invitational – 23.0% UGA Fall Invitational – 5.1% Ohio State Invitational – 4.0% Minnesota Invitational – 1.9%
We’ve already seen some strong swims in the first few months of the 2024-25 NCAA season, but we’ll see even more this weekend when the majority of the midseason invitationals are held. You will be able to see them swimming.
With the exception of the Minnesota Invitational, which will be held the week after U.S. Thanksgiving in early December, all other major invitationals will begin within the next few days.
Cal will compete in the Minnesota Invitational, but the rest of the NCAA’s top teams will also be in action this week. Virginia and host Vols host Tennessee Invitational, Texas, Stanford and USC race in Austin, Florida joins Georgia in UGA Fall Invitational, North Carolina State welcomes Arizona State and Virginia Tech to Wolfpack Elite Invitational, Indiana State University and Louisville head to Ohio State. Join us at the OSU Fall Invite.
When we asked Swimswam readers which event produces the best times in the country, the Tennessee Invitational came out on top with 35% of the vote, followed closely by the Texas Invitational (30.9%).
The Tennessee Invitational will be headlined by the Virginia women’s team, which includes Gretchen Walsh (50 free, 100 fly, 200 back), Claire Curzan (100 back, 200 back, 200 fly), and other top teams in the nation. Candidates who record the best times will participate. Leah Hayes, Amy Canny, Emma Weber, Cavan Gormsen and more. Alex Walsh will not be participating in any particular races.
The meet will also feature Tennessee’s top swimmers Camille Spink, Josephine Fuller and Jordan Crooks. They all have the potential to record the nation’s top times in multiple events.
The Longhorns, Stanford, and USC are all scheduled to participate in the Texas Invite. We’ve already seen what Texas did earlier this season, and given that, it’s easy to see some hot swims dropped. Emma Sticklen and Jillian Cox have had the best performances so far on the women’s team, while newcomers Hubert Koss, Rex Maurer and defending NCAA champion Luke Hobson have garnered attention on the men’s team. are.
The Olympic champions had a very impressive season debut against ASU, so the Cardinal will have a chance to post NCAA-leading minutes given Tori Husk’s return after a redshirt season.
The only other competition that received more than 10% of the votes was the Wolfpack Elite Invite, which received 23%. Arizona State has struggled early this season, North Carolina State has always been dangerous, and Virginia Tech has players like Youssef Ramadan and Carles Col MartÃ, both of whom can ruin the nation’s top times. There is a possibility.
The UGA Fall Invitational only received 5% of the votes, but with Florida’s Josh Liendo and Bella Sims joining Georgia’s Luka Urlando, it’s a can’t-miss tournament.
Below are the votes in the new A3 Performance Poll. This question asks, “The Texas Invitational will not be scored. Does scoring matter at this point in the season?”
