The Texas A&M Aggies have two alumni who are currently NFL head coaches. Aaron Glenn left the Detroit Lions as defensive coordinator, but becomes the second Aggie alum to become an NFL coach.
Glenn is a former Aggies defensive back who played under legendary head coach RC Slocum from 1992 to 1993 before transitioning his playing career to the NFL. But despite playing just two seasons in College Station, the Aggies took to social media to express their excitement for the New York Jets’ new coach as he began his collegiate career at junior college Navarro College. Showed.
“Congratulations to Aaron Glenn on being named head coach of the New York Jets,” the official Aggies football Twitter account posted.
Glenn becomes the 24th head coach in Jets franchise history after going through the Aggie graduate interview process and interviews with the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets and New Orleans Saints. Ultimately, the Jets turned to him to replace Robert Saleh.
This led to Glenn’s first NFL coaching job as an assistant defensive backs coach with the Cleveland Browns in 2014, and he continues to rapidly rise through the ranks as an NFL coach.
He spent two seasons in Cleveland and took the defensive back job with the New Orleans Saints in 2016. He remained there until 2020, when he followed Campbell to Detroit as defensive coordinator.
And four seasons later, he now finds himself back in New York, the very team that drafted him in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft.
