AUSTIN — Shortly after entering the transfer portal on Friday, former Texas Longhorns tight end Amari Niblack has reportedly already secured a visit with a potential new suitor.
According to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports, Niblack is scheduled to visit the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday in search of his third team in three seasons. Niblack played the first two years of his career at Alabama before transferring to Texas last offseason.
He arrived in Austin with solid expectations, but finished the season with just five catches for 33 yards. He scored five touchdowns for the Crimson Tide, including one against Texas in 2023, making him an interesting addition to the offense. Instead, he sat behind Gunnar Helm and Juan Davis on the depth chart.
In a 17-7 win over Texas A&M on Nov. 30, Niblack finished with one catch for two yards. His most productive game was the win against Vanderbilt, where he had two catches for 22 yards.
In August, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian gave high praise to Niblack and expressed excitement about what he would bring to the Longhorn offense.
“The last couple of days have probably been Amari’s best days since she’s been with us,” Sarkisian said. “We know he’s really healthy and can make an impact in the run game as well as the pass game.”
Niblack is one of 10 portal transfers to Texas this offseason, joining receiver Jontae Cook II, defensive linemen Cydir Mitchell (LSU), Aaron Bryant (Vanderbilt), and Tia – Joins Savea (Arizona), Jayray Bledsoe (Mississippi State) and linebacker Tausiri Akana (BYU). Derion Garrett (Mississippi State), cornerbacks J’Veon Cole (Arizona State) and Judge Finkley (Kansas State) on the edge.
