As many mock drafts were predicted in the lead-up of the NFL Draft this weekend, Shemar Stewart was the only Texas A&M Aggie filmed in the first round. He later joined Nic Scourton and Shemar Turner as two other Aggies to hear their names throughout the three-day event, both being selected on the second day.
Obviously, being a first round pick is a goal, as it involves more infamy, fifth year choices, and yes, more money. This is reflected in the deal Stewart receives from Cincinnati Bengal after he makes him the 17th overall pick.
According to Overthecap, Stewart will sign a four-year, $18.9 million contract. This includes the fifth year option where Bengal has the opportunity to exercise. Stewart’s contract comes with a base salary of $840,000.
For comparison, former Stewart teammates Schoolton and Shematner will also receive a base salary of $840,000 after being selected for the second round. However, Scourton’s contract value is just over $8 million, while Turner is over $7 million.
At 6 feet 5 pounds and 267 pounds, Stewart can describe as a “freak” outlook. His athletic traits are elite, so his performance has been acquired in comparisons of the combine combines between the current Cleveland Browns star and the legendary Texas A&M Miles Garrett.
It takes years to wait to see if Stewart can live up to that high comparison. The Bengals certainly hope that he will experience similar success to the Aggies legend, who just signed a four-year, $200 million extension with the Browns this offseason.
