Finally, the moment college football fans have been waiting for years has arrived.
On Saturday night, the Texas A&M Aggies and Texas Longhorns will renew the Lone Star Showdown for the first time since 2011. This game was the one everyone was watching from the moment the Longhorns announced their move to the SEC, and was being watched for high ratings. -Will the winner advance to the conference championship game in a stakes matchup? So yeah, fans are looking forward to it.
This game had a lot of stories behind it, making it one of the most anticipated games in college football history, at least in the regular season. How much was expected? Saturday night’s game is now the most expensive college football game in history, with an average purchase price of $1,072, according to TickPick. Not only that, but it was the most expensive regular season football game on record between both college and NFL teams.
Previously, the title for the most expensive college football game went to last year’s matchup between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. The national championship game ended with the No. 3 Wolverines defeating the No. 2 Buckeyes 30-24, with an average purchase price of $763. This week’s Aggies-Longhorns game is a whopping 40 percent more expensive.
The “admission fee” is $742, 160 percent more expensive than Saturday’s Ohio State-Michigan game in Columbus.
Hard to think, these prices could go even higher as we get closer to kickoff. But it will be interesting to see how high they can aim.
This rivalry dates back to 1894, when Texas held an all-time record of 76-37-5. The two teams last met in 2011, with the Longhorns winning 27-25 at Kyle Field. The Aggies will try to turn things around a little bit Saturday night, and the whole world will be watching.
For those who go to the match, it may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
