College Station, Texas (KBTX) – Catcher Bear Harrison made the most of his chances on Tuesday as Texas A&M head coach Michael Ely continued his move to find consistent batting orders.
Harrison belted the first two home runs of the season in consecutive at-bats, leading Texas A&M Colpus Christie to a 17-7 run rule victory in seven innings.
“Amazing work,” Early said after the match. “A great job, just ride there. Ben was up and down. (Ben) Royo isn’t playing much. So, when you think of the next guy, when you play, you have to be ready to go. Both of you did outstanding work.”
Harrison scored his third start in Tuesday’s final 12 games and gave Jacob Galloway an evening break after catching the entire weekend series.
St. Mary’s Transfer regained Aggie Lead in the bottom for the third time with a two-run homer on the left and a homer on the scored Benroyo. He matched it with Homer, fourth, Homer, who needs a little bit of force to push the fence up.
“Secondly, I ended up endcaping it a little, but I knew the wind was blowing away today,” Harrison said. “But the first one, I certainly enjoyed it. It really feels good.”
Here’s the overview of the game:
Why did A&M win? It wasn’t easy at first. The Islanders plated seven runs in the first three innings of the game.
However, Aggie’s offense was able to provide run support, keeping pace with the islanders throughout the first three innings, setting up a pair of four spots in the fourth and seventh.
Reliever Grant Cunningham pitched three innings in the last three islanders half innings to seal the victory of the run rule.
Who stood out? On the mound, Cunningham’s 5 1/3 innings was the best in Aggieland since moving from Washington in the offseason. He allowed one run with three hits and hit two.
Royo produced three runs in the game after defending defensive sub early, being helped by Harrison’s big night at the plate.
Center fielder Jace Rabiorette went 6-6 with two RBIs in the game.
What was the important play? The biggest highlight of the game actually came from the glove of Island right fielder Christian Miss Johnson.
At the bottom of the third, A&M’s first bass man Gavin Kash sent a line shot towards the visitor’s bullpen on the right. In a full sprint, Smith Johnson jumped out towards the ball and caught him by flipping the short wall in front of the pen. He pops up, jumps over the fence and throws it right after completing the play.
“It was a great play,” Yearly said. “Amazing play. Also, it’s a whim to have him return to the field of play before he throws baseball.”
What does this mean? After being swept over the weekend, the bounceback victory in offense should be a welcome lead-in to this weekend’s road series at Vanderbilt.
What’s next? The Aggies visited the road for a three-game series in Nashville, which ran from 6pm to Saturday.
