Texas A&M Forest Service supports reforestation projects in East Texas communities
COLLEGE STATION, Texas—On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Texas A&M Forest Service planted more than 150 seedlings. Trees at Morris Frank Park Wetland in Lufkin. During the event, 280 saplings were also distributed to local residents.
This tree planting event is Reforest Lufkina community tree planting initiative co-led by Texas A&M Forest Service Green Futures, a corporate sustainability partnership initiative. This event marks a significant milestone for the City of Lufkin, which celebrates 35 years of earning Tree City USA certification and receiving its first Growth Award for Urban Forestry Development.
Tree planting locations will reforest wetland areas of the park to aid stormwater runoff, increase the resilience of the community’s tree canopy by highlighting biodiversity, increase water infiltration into the soil, and support wildlife. It was specifically designed to improve habitat and provide relaxing green space. For community members to enjoy.
“We could not have accomplished this historic event without the leadership and support of our local communities,” said Texas A&M Forest Service Partnership Coordinator Morgan Abbott. “Lufkin has made a generations-old commitment to bringing the economic, environmental, social, and spiritual benefits of trees to our communities by organizing, planting, and caring for these trees. .”
Local organizations and individuals donated to the initiative, including Angelina Beautiful Clean, Caddo Sustainable Timberlands, City of Lufkin, Texas Conservation Alliance, Texas Forestry Association, Rayonier, Royo Martin, TC Energy, TTG Forest Service, and Corbank. and supported tree planting at this event. and local volunteers.

Future Green Futures tree plantings are planned for the Houston area. The tree planting will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 9 a.m. to noon at Jane Long Academy Spark Park (6501 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, Texas 77074). If you are interested in volunteering, you can register here.
