Texas A&M coach Mike Elko said Wednesday that Kori Faaiu will start at center in place of Shanahan, but did not say who will be the backup center against the Razorbacks.
“Rather than just tell everyone on the planet what we’re doing, I think there are some options out there. I think there are some options behind Cori,” Elko said.
There isn’t much in the initial announcement beyond what Elko already revealed during his SEC weekly teleconference on Wednesday. Once the team releases its injury reports on Thursday and Friday, with a final report on Saturday, there may be more clarity on quarterback Connor Weigman and others’ availability, but Elko said he will make that decision on game day.
“He’s practicing right now. He’s progressing and getting better,” Elko said of Weigman on Wednesday. “We’re hopeful he’ll be available on Saturday. We’ll make a decision on that on game day.”
The Razorbacks will face No. 24 Texas A&M in Arlington on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
