No. 22 Texas A&M (21-9, 10-7 seconds) entered the week with a lot of work to earn as high as the 3rd seed in the NCAA Tournament, but after beating No. 1 Auburn 83-72 on Tuesday night, the Aggies win for the third acquisition, which was said to be likely to arrive on the fifth day as a 3-Seed.
Nationally, the Aggies have regained respect from the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee and national media after beating what many consider to be the best team in college basketball. They dominated the Tigers defensively, keeping senior forward Johnny Bloom at a low 8 points in the season, sending the message that their previous four-game winning streak was merely a clash of the road.
This week is focused on beating the LSU team, who continue to play better than the disastrous record show at Baton Rouge. Aggies should play at the same strength in defense, continue driving the paint, and limit turnover. After scoring 16 points against Auburn, star guard Wade Taylor IV is nine points away from A&M’s all-time high scoring record.
On Thursday, ESPN’s Jeff Bolzero kept Texas A&M at No. 15 after beating LSU and released the updated college basketball power rankings. This is why he’s not rising in the rankings.
“Texas A&M took control of Auburn thoroughly on Tuesday and led the wire out of the wire. It’s not a bad way to finish a four-game losing streak. The Aggies scored the first even number of points in the game, and the top-ranked Tiger couldn’t reach within strike distance in the second half. Shot against Auburn.”
Texas A&M’s 24 offensive rebounds and nine three-pointers are the main reasons the Aggies win and play with consistent strength in defense. This game serves as a blueprint for moving forward for teams who have been much more experienced in giving up when their interests reach the highest level.
Texas A&M will face LSU on the road at 3pm on Saturday, March 8th. The game will be broadcast on the SEC network.
