The TMA said the award will be awarded to outstanding physicians and medical students across the state, recognizing “the association’s membership, community and contributions to the organized medical section.”
All winners reportedly were recognized at TMA’s annual Texmed Conference in San Antonio.
The Texas A&M University School of Medicine in College Station was named as the 2025 Chapter of the Year among all Texas medical schools by the TMA Medical Students Section, according to the TMA, recognizing the school’s participation in TMA councils and parties, as well as policymaking and community outreach initiatives such as a student-run clinic, a health fair to benefit an underserved community and a TMA Hard Hats for Little Heads Giveaway.
“I am extremely proud of the great advances my chapter has made over the past year in pursuing their passion for advocacy,” said President Stephen Kwon of the chapter. “I look forward to the road ahead of Texas A&M.”
Temple hematologist and oncologist Prutari Kulkarni was also recognized as having received the annual awards for TMA residents and fellow section members.
The association said Kulkarni is working for the TMA Cancer Committee and recently concluded a term on the TMA Council. She is also reportedly a member of the Bell County Medical Association.
“I am very grateful for this recognition and all the opportunities I have had through our organization,” Kulkarni said. “I have not only enjoyed amazing mentorship over the years, but it was also an empowerment that continues to build and give back. I will continue to use my experience driving my voice and my voice and my experience and advocating for my peers and patients.”
Medical professionals in Dallas and Lubbock were also recognized by the award.
According to the association, each year, various sections of the TMA (young doctors, residents, peers, medical students) recognize individuals who represent unique fields of medical families. The award is intended to celebrate “outstanding leadership, leadership and civic engagement.”
