Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has always prided himself on his defensive third-down packages. SEC Network analyst Roman Harper is paying attention.
The former University of Alabama star spoke about Elko and the Aggies’ defense on the College GameDay podcast earlier this week.
“The way they defend on third down is legendary,” Roman Harper said. “They confuse everyone so much. They’re making so many plays with what they’re doing design-wise on third down. Really, any quarterback is going to have problems with them. They get a free runner at quarterback. And that’s where they really won.”
Texas A&M’s opponents convert less than 31 percent of their third-down attempts, ranking 16th in the nation.
Mike Elko played great defense as an assistant at Wake Forest, Notre Dame and Texas A&M before taking over as head coach at Duke.
After having great success with the Blue Devils, he was brought back to Texas A&M to lead the Aggies program and is currently playing very good defense for the Aggies as well.
Dan Mullen reveals keys to Texas A&M vs. LSU victory in Top 25 showdown
One of the biggest games of the weekend in college football is Texas A&M hosting LSU in College Station on Saturday night.
ESPN analyst and former Florida State head coach Dan Mullen shared his thoughts on the game on SportsCenter Thursday afternoon. Mullen explained what Texas A&M would need to do to stay on top and also named potential opponents.
“Well, Texas A&M is going to come in and say, ‘Hey, guys, we lost the first game of the season, everybody wrote us out. Everybody’s saying we don’t have a chance this year. got a chance to show them,” Dan Mullen said. “And I’ll tell you what they need to do, they need to accommodate this crowd in College Station. It’s going to be loud. They’re going to be loud.
“And they need to follow their plan. What brought them here.”
