Four Things You Need to Know About Texas Baseball Coach Jim Schlossnaggle
On Saturday, the Texas baseball team aims to secure a fifth series victory in the Southeastern Conference Play.
In the second straight game, Texas will be the visiting team at Kentucky Proud Park. The Longhorns (28-4, 12-1) held the weekend in Lexington with a 6-3 victory in Kentucky (18-13, 5-8) on Friday.
Ranked second in the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll and tied up with Arkansas to number one in the SEC rankings, Texas has won all four SEC series with Mississippi, LSU, Missouri and Georgia.
The final game in the series is 11am on Sunday.

Texas vs. Kentucky: Live Update
10: Texas 4, Kentucky 4
The Longhorns were unable to do anything in two walks to Rylangarban. Veteran reliever Andre Duplantia II (2-0, 4.50 ERA) will be in the game and will be at the center of the Kentucky batting order at the bottom of the 10 innings.
End 9: Texas 4, Kentucky 4
Kentucky tied the game with nine Homer from Ethan Hindle’s bat. That solo shot was a hit with a full-price offer from UT freshman Dylan Volantis.
Texas are 1-2 in the inning extlining game this season, with one win coming from last week’s Sweep Secure victory over Georgia. Three of Kentucky’s final five games were in more innings, with the Wildcats losing two of these overtime contests.
9am: Texas 4, Kentucky 3
Texas has not been able to add insurance in nine innings, but the Longhorns are still closing their victory. Dylan Volantis will remain on the mound for Texas as the freshman tries to secure a save in his second straight game.
End 8: Texas 4, Kentucky 3
After Jason Flores hit the first two Kentucky batsmen he faced in the eighth innings, Texas called out fellow freshman Dylan Volantis. The freshman hit two batters to drive Texas out of the game and get a groundout to maintain a one-run lead.
Volantis earned his eighth save of the season in a 6-3 victory over the Wildcats on Friday.
8am: Texas 4, Kentucky 3
Ethan Mendoza’s timely batting and a wild streak from Kentucky pitcher Jackson Knob helped UT regain the lead at Lexington. After Mendoza, the top hitter in the Texas batting order, he led eight innings with a double, and he moved to 3 base on a one-out wild pitch. Mendoza sprinted to the house with two outs when Kentucky catcher Devin Burks couldn’t surround the second wild pitch of the innings.
Casey Bolva later added another double, but he was left in 2 base by Adrian Rodriguez’s ending groundout.
End 7: Texas 3, Kentucky 3
Longhorns and Wildcats are tied up until seven innings. Texas freshman reliever Jason Flores has retired from the bottom side of seven innings.
End 6: Texas 3, Kentucky 3
The game is played mid-day, but there were fireworks at Kentucky Proud Park. Kentucky manager Nick Mingion was kicked out at the end of six innings after a replay review supported Ethan Hindle’s ending inning strikeout.
6:30: Texas 3, Kentucky 3
A pair of strikeouts by Kentucky’s reliever Evan Byers wasted Texas’ scoring opportunities in six innings. Texas freshman Adrian Rodriguez has taken runners to 1 person and 3 bases. Jarin Flores’ strikeout then scored two Texas runners.
Why are you heading towards “Baby Shark” during this TV broadcast?
After Aiden Moffett released UT starting pitcher Luke Harrison in five innings, viewers at home may have heard Kentucky Cleanup batsman Devin Burks explode in the background after he counted 2-0 against the Texas bailiff. According to ON3, “Baby Shark” is played at Kentucky Proud Park every time the Wildcat counts 2-0. When the count moves to 3-0, the “Jaws” theme will play.
End 5: Texas 3, Kentucky 3
Patrick Herrera’s two-out single tied the game, chasing Texas starter Luke Harrison from the game. 4 2/3 innings and past 81 pitch, Harrison allowed seven hits, attacking five people and walking to hit one batter. Neither Harrison nor Friday’s starter Jared Spencer passed five innings at Kentucky this weekend.
4: Texas 3, Kentucky 2
Texas, held on Hitless by Kentucky starter Nick McKay in the first three innings of today, discovered some offense. To lead the four innings, Texas catcher Rylan Galvan hit a solo homer. It was the 11th homer of the season for Galvan, a junior who hit 12 homers in his first two years and hit 258 at-bats with the Longhorns.
The power surge continued later in the innings when Jalin Flores connected with 2 run homer. That swing came with Adrian Rodriguez, who was hit on the pitch with two outs.
Flores is currently running in five straight games.
End 3: Kentucky 2, Texas 0
Throughout the three innings, Texas are still searching for their first hit at Lexington. Kentucky starter Nick McKay walked two batters.
End 2: Kentucky 2, Texas 0
The Wildcats scored first at Kentucky Proud Park. After leading two innings with a double, Devin Burkes was brought home by a one-out single from Kyoss Gargett. An offensive Baserunning with two outs led to Kentucky adding another run before the innings ended.
Throughout two innings, Texas was held without being attacked by Kentucky starter Nick McKay. The Longhorns retired in turn in the first innings and then went for walks in two innings.
Trivia: What infielders have played recently at both UT and Kentucky?
Friday was the second mark that Texas and Kentucky have played so far. However, two programs have recent ties.
Before closing his college career with the Wildcats in 2024, infielder Mitchell Daly played for Texas from 2021-23.
Daly is currently on the Los Angeles Angels farm system.

Rodriguez’s appearance on the left field is noteworthy as the freshman starts 13 at 3 base this season and has been used 12 times as a designated batter for UT. However, as Texas struggles to find a third outfielder after a Max Bellue’s thumb injury, the Longhorns try something new together with Rodriguez.
According to Texas, Rodriguez recently took a flyball during team practice and suffered a private injury. He has not played in the outfield since his third year of high school.
