Two weeks after the season ended, the Texas women’s basketball team lost another starter.

A team spokesman confirmed to the US National State on Saturday that junior forward Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda had entered the transfer portal. Mwenentanda spent the last three seasons with the Longhorns.

News of her departure was first reported by ON3.

Texas’ Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda averaged 5.6 points and 2.9 rebounds over this past season, starting 15 games after Aaliyah Moore was injured. Mwenentanda is the third longhorn that enters the transfer portal.

The 6-foot-2 Mwennantanda was used as both guard and forward in Texas, and she enjoyed her best season as the Longhorns ran to the Final Four this year. She averaged 5.6 points and 2.9 rebounds. She also started 15 times after a knee injury from Forward Aaliyah Moore.

Mwenentanda was benched twice briefly during his ride as a starter. She scored a career-high 19 points when she got off the bench in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, returning to the starting lineup for UT’s next game.

Mwenentanda will join Reserve Guard Jodana Cordio and Backup Center Abby Bootilier on the portal as a Longhorns participant. Mwenentanda and Codio lost Amina Muhammad to Oregon on the portal last year, and were the rest of UT’s 2022 recruitment class.

In addition to Mwenentanda, Texas will need to replace graduation starters Shay Hall and Taylor Jones. But the Longhorns still have a stacked roster that has established emerging talents such as Madison Booker across the US, point guard Lori Harmon, veteran guard Lyla Feria, and Jordan Lee and Briana Preston. Sophomore Carlton, Arizona transfer Braya Cunningham and freshman Aaliyah Krump could all be considered able to compete for Mwenentanda’s vacant minutes.
