Texas EDGE’s Tausiri Akana will enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Hayes Forcett. Fawcett said Akana filled out the necessary paperwork to enter the portal.
The Hawaii native appeared in seven games in 2024 and recorded one tackle against UTSA during the season.
Tausiri Akana signed with Texas after being ranked as a 2023 graduate, four-star recruit and the No. 12 linebacker in the nation, according to On3 industry rankings. That season, he appeared in one game as a true freshman.
Before coming to Texas, Akana was an All-American who was selected to participate in the 2023 All-American Bowl. He finished his senior season with 70 tackles, 14.5 sacks, 21 tackles for loss, 22 pressures and one fumble.
Last Saturday, Texas fell just short of winning the SEC Championship, losing to Georgia in Atlanta. The Longhorns will host Clemson in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Saturday, December 21st.

Texas LB Derion Garrett also plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal
In addition to Edge Tausiri-Akana, Texas linebacker Derion Garrett also announced plans to enter the transfer portal on Monday.
Derion Garrett did not appear in a game in 2023 after appearing in five games last season. The Texas native recorded two tackles for the Longhorns in 2024.
Derion Garrett signed with Texas as a member of the Class of 2023. He was a four-star recruit and was ranked the No. 13 linebacker in the nation coming out of high school, according to On3 industry rankings.
He chose the Longhorns over offers from Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Ohio State and several other big-name schools.
