The Longhorns women’s soccer team is just one of many strong athletic programs in the state of Texas. This year, the Horns enter their first SEC Tournament as a No. 3 seed with a first-round bye.
The SEC Tournament begins Sunday, Nov. 3 in Pensacola, Florida, with eight teams scheduled to play in the first round.
Texas State will not play until the quarterfinals of the second round, when it will face the winner of the matchup between 6th-seeded Auburn and 11th-seeded LSU.
The only teams seeded higher than the Longhorns are the No. 1 seed Mississippi State Bulldogs and No. 2 seed Arkansas Razorbacks. Mississippi is ranked No. 2 in the nation, and Arkansas is No. 5.
Texas fell to No. 21 in the nation after struggling a bit throughout conference play. This season, the Horns lost all three of their SEC games against Mississippi State, Florida State and Arkansas, resulting in an overall record of 13-3-2.
On October 27, Texas ended the regular season with a 1-0 victory over the unranked Georgia Bulldogs, the team’s sixth conference win of the year.
Forward Lexi Missimo is once again leading the Longhorns’ attack. The win against Georgia was the first of eight consecutive games with a goal. Teammate Trinity Byers holds the current program record for points in nine consecutive games.
Texas is scheduled to play its first game of the SEC Tournament on Tuesday, November 5th at 2:00 PM CT. The Auburn-LSU game kicked off just 24 hours ago and is scheduled to determine who the Longhorns will face in the quarterfinals.
The Auburn Tigers have 12 wins, 2 losses and 4 losses so far this season. The LSU Tigers finished the regular season with a total of 8 wins, 7 losses, and 3 draws.
