Houston – Tens of thousands of Texans are said to be part of a privacy invasion that dates back to 2021.

The Texas Health and Human Services Board (HHSC) told another 33,529 Texan who receives agency services “provided health, personally identifiable or sensitive personal information may have been inappropriately accessed, used or disclosed.”

Are you a victim of snap skimming? Share your story in 2 will help you.

According to HHSC, the data breach dates back from June 2021 to January 2025.

The state agency was first notified of a privacy infringement on November 21, 2024, and a few days later confirmed the violation on December 5, 2024.

Originally, the state agency said at least 61,000 people may have stolen or accessed the information. The number is currently 94,000, according to a message from the state agency.

The following victim information that may have been accessed or stolen include:

full name

Home address

telephone number

date of birth

email address

social security number

Medicaid and Medicare Identification Numbers

Financial information

Employment information

Bank Information

Benefit Information

Health information

Insurance information

Medical Information

Certificate Information

License Information

Other personal information

It is important to know that the data you access differs from person to person.

“The data that was inappropriately accessed, used or disclosed was not the same for everyone,” the agency wrote.

Nine Texas HHSC employees were fired as a result of an investigation.

Employee misconduct was identified on July 9, 2024.

“HHSC is working to strengthen internal security management and implement additional fraud prevention measures including monitoring and alerts to detect suspicious activity,” the agency wrote in a press release. “HHSC understands the impact of this privacy violation and is committed to protecting the confidential information of the people we serve.”

The addition of Texan added to the data breaches occurs during KPRC 2 investigations on SNAP skimming.

For those affected by data breaches, Texas HHSC offers two hearings: free credit surveillance and identity theft protection services.

This is what the state provided to obtain the protections it provided.

Individuals affected by the violation will be notified by first-degree mail by April 30th.

You can also call 866-362-1773, toll-free and Central Time (except major US holidays) from 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday. When calling, use engagement number B139792.
