KAUFUMAN COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News) – Texas Health Resources is building a new hospital in Kaufman County to meet growing needs.
The 242,000-square-foot facility in Forney will feature an emergency room, operating rooms and a delivery unit.
Toya White, chief nursing officer and president of Texas Health Kaufman, said the current facility is the only hospital that has been serving residents in one of the fastest growing counties in the country for the past 40 years.
“But there’s an additional need in areas like Forney because there’s no gap in care, so with the population growth that Kaufman County has experienced, there’s an absolute need for additional care and access points to meet the needs of consumers,” she said.
White said while the current facility can treat many patients, there are gaps in vital services.
“There are some people who may have adverse health care outcomes, such as those in labour or with complications from childbirth. Currently there are no maternity services in the area so this service will help fill that need,” she said.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Kaufman County is the fastest growing in the country, and Forney is considered one of the fastest growing cities in the country.
Texas Health CEO Berkley Berdun said the decision to build in the area made sense.
“With deep roots in the community, including our hospital in Kaufman that has served the area for more than 40 years, we are pleased to be able to provide additional health care to the residents of Kaufman County,” he said.
Forney Mayor Jason Roberson said he is also hopeful the facility will bring hundreds of jobs to the area.
“We are excited to welcome this facility to Forney, which will provide the highest quality medical care to the residents here in Forney,” said Forney Mayor Jason Roberson. “We welcome Texas Health Resources and look forward to the positive impact it will have on our community.”
The hospital will be built on 50 acres of land along Highway 80 and is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
Texas Health has also worked with partners to build healthier communities by providing more than $1 million in grant funding to Kaufman County over the past five years to address issues like mental health, social isolation and food insecurity in underserved areas.
