AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 12, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Texas Hemp Business Council (THBC), a non-profit trade association focused on promoting and protecting hemp-derived cannabinoid products in Texas, today announced the appointment of Mark Bordas as Executive Director.
Bordas brings more than 30 years of government relations experience to the Texas Hemp Business Council, serving clients in highly regulated industries including alcohol, e-cigarettes, healthcare and tobacco. Bordas has helped found and grow numerous trade associations and has been instrumental in organizing and developing a wide range of successful state and federal legislative and regulatory campaigns.
“Mark’s extensive experience navigating complex regulatory environments and work building trade associations will undoubtedly serve him well in his role as executive director of the Texas Hemp Business Council, especially now that the hemp industry in Texas and across the nation is under the threat of potential prohibition,” said Cynthia Cabrera, founding board member of the Texas Hemp Business Council and chief strategy officer at Hometown Hero. “His deep industry knowledge and strategic acumen will be critical in advancing THBC’s goals.”
Bordas works as a government relations professional in Texas, assisting clients seeking legislative or regulatory relief in single or multiple states through lobbying, grassroots activism, and communications strategies. Previously, Bordas worked for Anheuser-Busch for nearly 20 years in various positions coordinating legislative and regulatory activities. Bordas was also a founding member of the Texas Manufacturers Association and served as a lead organizer for the New Mexico Fair Association and the Texas Brewers Association (now the Texas Brewers Guild). Previously, he served as Executive Director of the Ohio Jewelers Association, where he grew the association’s annual trade show into the fourth largest fine jewelry event in the United States.
“As the industry navigates new regulatory and legislative challenges, the Texas Hemp Business Council is committed to serving as a leading voice for thousands of local hemp businesses and farmers, ensuring a fair and open marketplace that fosters innovation, stimulates investment and creates valuable jobs,” Bordas said. “Millions of veterans and adult consumers rely on hemp-derived cannabinoids as part of their daily lives, and we are committed to the future success of this industry, including all aspects from seed to sale.”
Bordas earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in public policy and administration from Ohio State University, and is also certified in mediation and alternative dispute resolution from the University of Texas School of Law.
