COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The owner of a Texas Krispy Kreme doughnut store has been arrested after allegedly setting fire to his doughnut shop in College Station.
The owner of the College Station store, suspect Brian Keith Davis, 54, of Katy, was taken into custody after an 11-week investigation led by the College Station Fire Marshal’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
The fire marshal’s office announced Davis’ arrest, noting that the State Fire Marshal’s Accelerants Detection Canine Unit and College Station Police are involved in the investigation.
Harris County Precinct 5 police assisted in the arrest and detention of Davis this Thursday afternoon in Harris County.
After the fire, racist messages were reportedly found spray-painted on the outside of the building, though authorities have said the incident is not being investigated as racially motivated.
“I am proud of the work of the CSFD Fire Chief’s Office and thank the ATF for their assistance and cooperation,” said Fire Chief Richard Mann. “Their cooperation and teamwork helped us rid our streets of criminals who showed a complete disregard for the risk that intentional arson poses to our community and firefighters.”
The incident was first reported in the early hours of May 13, when the fire broke out at approximately 2 a.m., when witnesses heard a loud explosion and saw the building engulfed in flames. The building was declared completely burned, and “accelerants” were found at the scene.
The investigation is still ongoing.
