WACO, Texas (KWTX) – North Texas saw snow and ice conditions Friday night ahead of the Cotton Bowl game in Arlington. There, the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes will compete for a ticket to the national championship.
While the weather hasn’t affected the big game yet, and will likely affect fans traveling to the area tomorrow, some die-hard UT fans here in Central Texas won’t want to miss this game. Some say no.
Melissa Bostwick, who grew up in Waco, has been a longtime Texas Longhorns fan.
“Around 1996, I started going to Texas games with friends and we had a lot of fun and had a great time. Then I married into the University of Texas family,” she said.
She and her family, who now have a daughter who just graduated from the University of Texas and a son who is still attending the University of Texas, go to every football game they can and buy tickets for tomorrow’s game in September. I’m doing it.
“When the Cotton Bowl went on sale, I bought tickets to the Cotton Bowl because I knew it was going to be one of the semifinal games, and luckily I ended up going there. ,” Bostwick said.
So when she heard that dangerous weather was predicted for the area on the day of the big game, everyone held their breath.
“I’ve been watching it for almost a week, so it’s had its ups and downs,” she recalled.
But despite the weather, organizers said this year’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl is still going on and will be held as scheduled. Everyone needs to be extra careful on the roads tomorrow.
According to Bostwick, “I’m planning on leaving in the morning, so I’m hoping I can get there in time for the game.”
In a statement shared yesterday by AT&T Stadium and Cotton Bowl officials, they said, “Highways in North Texas are already salted up and we are working hard to ensure a safe environment for everyone in and around AT&T Stadium on game day.” There are plans to do so.”
Governor Greg Abbott also addressed concerns about travel to the game during a press conference yesterday.
“As I have heard from other sources, I am confident that there will be no problem for people to attend the games,” Governor Abbott said.
But Bostwick says he was going to play in the game anyway.
“I was actually planning on going on Wednesday,” she said. “We have friends coming from Houston to pick us up, and they flew in and changed their flight from Friday to Wednesday.”
Benji Bauer, another local University of Texas graduate who will be watching tomorrow’s game, said, “No weather conditions are going to stop me from going. I’ll crawl to Dallas if I have to.” . My bigger concern over the weather is Ohio State’s two great wide receivers. ”
“I’m very excited. It’s going to be a great time,” Bostwick said. “Hopefully the stadium will be full, and it would be great if more Texas fans could come, but I hope that anyone who has a ticket will be able to attend.” “
The game is scheduled for tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. You can watch it live on ESPN, but if you plan on driving to Dallas, be extra careful while traveling.
