Texas Longhorns linebacker Anthony Hill did wonders for Steve Sarkisian’s defense in Austin, leading the Longhorns into Friday’s College Football Playoff semifinal against Ohio State.
Hill and the Horns have survived the playoffs so far, losing to Georgia in the SEC Championship, defeating Cam Scatterbo and Arizona State in double overtime in the Peach Bowl, and quickly returning to CFP play.
Before the CFP, the Longhorns defeated Texas A&M at Kyle Field to close out the regular season and secure a spot in the SEC Championship, the first meeting between these rivals since 2011.
Hill totaled five tackles in a 17-7 win over his alma mater, who committed to play in July 2022, but was released in November and instead headed west to Austin to play in the state capital. chose to do so.
And his performance speaks for itself, with 107 total tackles, 7.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles making him the highlight of the Longhorn defense.
When asked about playing against his alma mater and his decision to leave A&M, Hill had nothing but positive things to say about the maroon and white.
“Do I need to say anything? I mean, I feel like I made the right decision. Look at my situation,” Hill said. “Decommitment, I’d like to put that in the past. Playing at Kyle Field was crazy. I can’t lie, the atmosphere was soaring. It was really cool to play in that stadium. Of course, even after I released my commitment, it was fun.” ”
Hill will play against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl, looking to lock Texas into a national championship against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
