Summary: Joseph Herron, 71, of Kamal County, pleaded guilty to his sixth DUI charge and was sentenced to life in prison. His most recent crime occurred in 2022, when he crashed into a dumpster with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit. Prosecutors highlighted Herron’s extensive history of DWI offenses across multiple counties and expressed concern for community safety. Despite previous attempts at treatment, he continued his criminal behavior and was sentenced to a heavy sentence. Authorities emphasized the dangers of drunk driving and encouraged people to use ride-sharing services instead of driving under the influence. Herron will be eligible for parole at the age of 101.

A Comal County man will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to his sixth DUI charge. FOX 7 Austin’s John Klinjak spoke to prosecutors in the case about why he believes this punishment fits the crime.
