Texas men’s basketball head coach Rodney Terry has secured his first commitment to the Class of 2025 as a new recruiting cycle unfolds ahead of the team’s regular season.
John Clark, a senior power forward and No. 35 recruit in the Class of 2025, is now spearheading his next commitment, announcing his decision to go to Texas to On3 reporters on Friday. Clark chose the Longhorns over other schools and basketball powerhouses like Texas A&M, Kansas and Houston, and the Cougars advanced to the Sweet 16 of last season’s NCAA March Madness Tournament.
Clark will complete his final prep year at Link Academy in Missouri, the same place current Texas freshman and No. 5 ranked recruit Tre Johnson came from before joining the Longhorns. is.
The 6-foot-9 forward, originally from Houston, told On3 that one of the highlights of recruiting at Texas was the culture and how he could grow through the program.
“I chose Texas because it felt like home. The coaches, players, alumni, campus and culture are ones I want to be a part of,” Clark said. myself. “
Clark took an official visit to Forty Acres on Sept. 13, shortly after traveling to Houston the week before, and completed his recruiting trip to Kansas State on Oct. 11. Clark said a big deciding factor was the plan Texas had for him. compared to his other options.
“I believed in the coaching staff because they have a track record of taking players to the next level, especially at my position, and I believed in the plan they had in place for me. and the layout also stood out to me more than any other school,” Clark said. “I fit into their system and style of play in a lot of ways, and their growth in the weight room and on the court has been great as well.”
This top-50 move is huge for Terry, who continues to rebuild a program that is a consistent NCAA Tournament contender in his third year on the job.
