The Texas woman has been arrested on charges related to the death of her 19-year-old daughter who died at her home on Valentine’s Day, having autism.
Balchi Springs police said Crystal Canales called 911 on Friday and that her daughter, Delila Villegus, had it. KDFW reported that it was difficult to breathe. The first responder discovered that Vilgas was already dead and estimated he had died 6-24 hours before the 911 call.
The first responder noticed a foul smell from Villegas’ bedroom, and the outline of her body was seen on the concrete floor, which was found in fetal position. They also said she was severely malnourished and had multiple bruises, contusions, and bedsours. She also exposed her bones on her thighs, shoulders, hips, butts, hands and ankles.
Police said Vilgas was the last person to go to the hospital in 2021 and that May of that year came to the House of Representatives. Canales said he hadn’t taken his daughter to the doctor because she became violent when she tried it.
She also told detectives that the first responder had arrived and was breathing before eating the goldfish crackers.
The family told detectives that Vilgas was severely autistic and nonverbal, but had no other health conditions.
Canales, 41, is accused of seriously injured by a person with disabilities. She will be booked at Balchi Springs Jail and transferred to Dallas County.
