A Texas mother who moved in with her partner and left her three children in a room with the decomposing body of their brother has pleaded guilty.
Gloria Williams, 38, pleaded guilty last week to two counts of injury to a child in connection with the death of her son Kendrick Lee, 8, according to Click2Houston.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Kendrick’s brothers, ages 15, 10, and 7, had been living alone at City Park II in Houston’s West Oaks Apartments for nearly a year. Investigators reported that on Oct. 24, 2021, 15-year-old Jordan called 911 and claimed that his mother had left him and his younger siblings alone for months.
Jordan told authorities that her brother was found dead in a room in the apartment.
The boy told investigators that Kendrick was dead in the bedroom and that he heard Coulter, Williams’ partner, assaulting Williams.
Coulter and Williams lived in separate apartments about 25 minutes apart. The children said Williams and Coulter would return every few weeks to deliver food, but during those visits Coulter would also assault them.
The children’s apartment was unfurnished, infested with cockroaches and had dirty carpeting, according to a police report.
Two of the children, Trevon, 10, and Javion, 7, witnessed Coulter kick and punch Kendrick until he died in the back, face, legs, arms and testicles. he told investigators. Police said Coulter wrapped Kendrick’s body in a blue blanket and left her in a bedroom.
By the time police found Kendrick, his body had decomposed to a skeleton and insects were crawling over it.
Williams said he tried to intervene during the assault but did not call police. She said she did so because Coulter told her not to, and because she feared going to jail and losing custody of her children.
Shortly after the assault, the couple moved out of the apartment.
The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Kendrick’s death a result of “homicidal violence” and found multiple blunt force trauma injuries. According to the criminal complaint, Coulter punched, kicked, and killed Kendrick on November 20, 2020.
According to the criminal complaint, Williams allegedly helped cover up the boy’s death. She is also accused of starving one of her children to death.
Mr. Williams is scheduled to be sentenced on November 11th.
