A recent ranking by Site Selection magazine once again recognized Texas as having the best business climate in the nation.

Site Selection released this year’s “Top Business Environment” state rankings in the November print edition and online edition on November 1st. Texas took the No. 1 spot, followed by Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia and Florida.
Site Selection uses a 14-metric index to create its rankings, including a survey of corporate real estate executives and site selectors, and criteria developed using corporate capital expenditure data in the Conway Projects database. Texas also ranked No. 1 in the executive research portion of this year’s rankings, followed by North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia. The business survey asks business location decision makers to rank their state’s top business climate.
The ranking also includes a survey asking site selectors what is most important to them. The top factors were utility availability, cost, and reliability.
Labor skills ranked second, followed by land and building prices and supply third.

The latest issue also includes a ranking of the top states for economic impact of U.S. foreign trade zones and FTZs. Texas leads the list of top 10 states by FTZ impact, with five zones in the top 20 states in the country.
Port Arthur’s FTZ 116 in southeast Texas was ranked third in the individual category, and South Louisiana Port’s FTZ 124 in Gramercy was ranked first.
