What is Trevor McEuen being charged with?
McEuen is the suspect murder suspect in the death of his neighbor, Aaron Martinez in May 2023. Martinez, 35, was shot and killed in a pickup. McEuen was arrested after negotiations and standoffs for SWAT, according to local news outlet WFAA.
At the time, the Hispanic Martinez family believed the incident was a hate crime. They told CBS News Texas that McEuen had previously told Martinez that Hispanics were not welcome. An incident report dates back to July 2022 shows that McEuen “pointed a gun at Martinez), fired his property and threatened his employees.”
However, the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office said there was no evidence to support the allegations that McEuen’s actions were recognized as a hate crime.
McEuen was initially held on a $2 million bond, but was released on bail after a reduction hearing. In November 2023 he was again taken into custody after the Kaufman County Grand Ju Trial charged him with capital murder.
McEuen was released in September 2024 on a $1 million bond, according to court records. Five days after his release, he posted photos of Martinez and the two Martinez relatives on social media. According to court documents, McEuen threatened to shoot Martinez’s uncle.
McEuen was arrested again after a judge raised the bond to $2 million. He reportedly posted the bond in December.
