Quarterback Quinn Ewers is scheduled to start at No. 3 Texas despite a sprained ankle in the Longhorns’ game against No. 20 Texas A&M on Saturday night in College Station, Texas. The junior was listed as a possible player on Friday’s Southeastern Conference injury report. He was injured during the first half of the Longhorns’ 31-14 win over Kentucky last Saturday. “I was at about the 50-yard line, so I stepped up, started running a little bit, and then I got tackled for a hip drop and I think he was just kind of rolling around,” Ewers said after the game. “But that’s football, and things like that happen.” Ewers finished 20-of-31 passing for 191 yards and two touchdowns despite the hobble. Just 14 of those yards came in the second half, when Texas gained 132 yards on the ground. After the game, he said his ankle was “just a little sore.” By Monday, he told the American-Statesman in Austin, “Nobody’s 100 percent, especially late in the season. But that’s part of it. I feel good.” Ewers completed 189 of 278 passes for 2,089 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions in nine games. He was out with a torn oblique muscle and was replaced by redshirt freshman Arch Manning, who may be called up Saturday. Manning completed 61 of 90 for 939 yards, nine TDs and two interceptions in six games (two starts). He also had 17 rushes for 81 yards and three touchdowns. Texas (10-1, 6-1 SEC) ruled out defensive back Derek Williams Jr. and running backs CJ Baxter, Christian Clark and Belton Gardner. Texas A&M (8-3, 5-2) will be without wide receiver Silas Allen, defensive back Tyreek Chappell, running back Le’Veon Moss and offensive lineman Mark Naboo Jr. – -Field Level Media
