State Sen. Paul Bettencourt will introduce laws that allow Texans to vote in daylight savings time.
Houston – If you’re one of the Texans who struggle with changing times twice a year, Sen. Paul Bettencourt of R-Houston is feeling your pain.
He introduced legislation that allowed Texans to choose standard time. This means that it means dark evenings or daylight savings time.
Republicans think Texans are tired of the hangover of time-changing hangovers.
“All this was sold to us 100 years ago back in World War I, and years ago, the X was sold that the X was somehow energy-saving. Well, in the modern economy, that’s not a real driver for this. Senator Texans spoke about internal politics in Texas.
Senator Bettencourt introduced Senate Bill 2029 and Senate Joint Resolution 67. This allows the Texans to determine whether to observe standard time or DST throughout the year through a statewide referendum on November 4, 2025.
But even if lawmakers approve the legislation and decide at what time the public will follow, that has not yet been finalized.
States may choose to comply with standard time forever. However, to permanently change to DST, it requires council approval.
Voting language is notoriously confusing, so we asked if it could be simplified for Texans.
“I’ll try and put some small monitors there.
SJR 67 has been featured on the Senate Committee and no hearing is scheduled yet. SB 2029 has been submitted.
