Texas State University will open a new campus in Santiago de Queretaro, Mexico, in partnership with Elysia Education Hub.
The Texas State University System’s Board of Governors approved the initiative in August after two years of planning to create Texas’ first international campus.
“It’s a beautiful campus on the outskirts of the beautiful city of Queretaro, and we’re excited to move this forward,” said Texas State President Kelly Danfoss. “Queretaro is home to around 1,500 multinational companies, which is why there is so much interest in earning an American-style degree in English.Mexico is our first international foray; This won’t be the last time.”

Queretaro is an industrial center located approximately 240 miles northwest of Mexico City, and the region is home to more than 1,500 multinational companies. Texas State University will create a dedicated space on its existing 370-acre campus in Queretaro, according to a news release.
The first classes will be available at the Querétaro campus in fall 2025. The university is still narrowing down its course offerings, with initial discussions focusing on engineering, psychology, biochemistry and mass communications, according to a news release.
Texas State University faculty establish and oversee the degree program curriculum, and all degrees on campus are fully accredited in both the United States and Mexico. Elisia Education Hub hires instructors, sets tuition fees, and covers operating costs. Texas State could receive up to $10 million over 10 years to support student success and research initiatives at the San Marcos campus, according to a news release.
Looking to the future
The Mexico campus could be the first overseas campus to partner with Texas. The Administrator is exploring possible future agreements with representatives from Costa Rica, Scotland, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea.
