Texas made waves in recruiting circles on Saturday when it acquired five-star safety Jonah Williams from Galveston (Texas) Bowl over Texas A&M, Louisiana State, Oregon and USC.
Williams’ commitment helped Texas rise six spots in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings to No. 8, ahead of the likes of A&M and Oklahoma.
“The coaching staff is amazing!” Williams told On3. “They tick all the boxes for what I’m looking for in a college.”
Williams had a good impression of the Longhorns after his visit in July.
“You know players are sent to the league,” Williams told On3. “If you’re a good player, you can go to the league from anywhere, so why not do it for your home state?”
“I have a lot of family living in the Austin area, so I got to meet them.”
Listed at 6-foot-3-2 and weighing 206 pounds, Williams is the No. 10 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 1 safety and the No. 3 recruit out of Texas in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 industry rankings, a weighted average utilizing all four major recruiting media companies.
