A Texas teacher was arrested Monday on suspicion of having an “inappropriate relationship” with a former student over the summer, authorities said.
Carroll Middle School educator Angela Burns, 45, is suspected of having a disturbing off-campus affair with a teenage boy between June and July of this year, according to Keller Public Safety and school officials.
Police said authorities began investigating in late September and determined Barnes was suspected of having had sexual relations with a minor.
She was charged with child sexual assault and inappropriate relationship between educator and student and booked into Keller Regional Jail.
A mug shot released by prison officials shows the teacher arrested on suspicion of sex crimes smiling awkwardly.
Burns was immediately placed on administrative leave by the Carroll Independent School District after school leaders became aware of the police complaint, according to WFAA.
“The school district was made aware that criminal activity occurred off-campus within the jurisdiction of the Keller Police Department over the summer,” the school system said.
“According to information we have received, no incidents have occurred on the CISD campus. CISD is working with the Keller Police Department and Child Protective Services to investigate the charges.”
This neighborhood is located in the city of Southlake, a suburb of the Dallas area.
Keller Public Safety said they do not believe there are any additional victims of Burns at this time.
