Texas teachers have been sitting behind bars for two years and are forever registered as sex offenders due to inappropriate relationships with students.
Annaleigh Andrews, 26, was arrested on a twisted charge of serious illness after his relationship with a student was revealed. Andrews was originally charged with three counts of sexual assault on a child, three counts of trafficking a child to engage in sexual acts and seducing the child with intent to commit a felony.
Andrews, a former teacher at McMichael Middle School, began grooming students by connecting with students outside of school. She sent messages to her students on snapchat, smoked weeds and took them to what the students described as “mansion.”
Andrews instructs students to lie to their parents about the hangout. Instead of working on the project as Andrews tells the student’s mother, she will tell her that she will sexually assault the child, according to the Nacodoches District Attorney’s Office.
In a bold attempt to excuse her actions, Andrews urged the court to consider her recent autism diagnosis and how she was not protected and prepared for academic school.
In the end, she is found guilty of seven counts, fined $5,000 for two years and must be registered as a sex offender for the rest of her life. Andrews receives three months of credit for his time in prison. But not everyone is satisfied with her punishment.
Amy Wren, assistant DA in Nacodoches County, shared that the district attorney’s office is “respectfully opposed” to the verdict. They believe the outcome does not match the crime.
“The DA Office does not consider it to reflect the seriousness of the crime committed, the position of trust that the accused occupied during the committee on these crimes, or the harm suffered by the victim and the victim’s family.”
