(TNS) — Texas Tech University Health Science Center and Texas Tech University Health Science Center El Paso (collectively, “HSC”) are providing notice of recent incidents that may affect the information of certain individuals. This notice describes the incident, the actions taken, and steps that potentially affected individuals can take in response.
In September 2024, HSC identified an issue that caused temporary interruptions to some computer systems and applications. After identifying these issues, HSC immediately took steps to secure the network and began an investigation. Our investigation confirmed that a cybersecurity event caused a technology issue that resulted in certain files and folders being accessed and deleted from HSC’s network between September 17, 2024 and September 29, 2024. To prevent a recurrence, HSC is reviewing its existing security policies and procedures as part of its investigation and implementing additional safeguards to better protect and monitor its systems.
Individuals whose information may be affected by this incident should remain vigilant against identity theft and fraud, review account statements, and check credit reports and medical and health insurance billing statements for suspicious activity. It is recommended that you monitor for errors. Individuals can take steps to protect their identity theft, fraud alerts, credit freezes, and personal information by contacting the three major credit reporting agencies, the Federal Trade Commission, or their state attorney general.
