Texas Tech freshman wide receiver Micah Hudson told On3’s Hayes Forcett that he plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Hudson, who signed with the Red Raiders as part of the 2024 recruiting class, was a Five Star Plus+ recruit.
He played in eight games as a freshman, completing eight passes for 123 yards.
At 5-foot-11, 195 pounds, he was the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 industry rankings, a weighted average using all four major recruiting media companies. He was ranked as the No. 4 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 4 recruit in the state of Texas.
He initially chose the Red Raiders over Texas State, Ohio State and dozens of other offers.
When will the transfer portal open?
The College Football Transfer Portal is scheduled for 45 days during the 2024-25 academic year. The portal opens at the end of the regular season, the day after College Football Playoff field games and bowl games are announced. According to the NCAA, the portal will open on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, and close on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025.
A 15-day grace period in April remains. The portal will open on April 16, 2025 and close on April 30, 2025.
According to NCAA guidelines, the transfer portal will be open for 30 days each time a head coach leaves a program, allowing players to leave the program and decide on their futures.
The postseason will be even longer with the first 12-team College Football Playoff. Players on teams competing in the College Football Playoff and subsequent bowl games will be allowed to enter an additional five-day transfer portal window in January after the portal closes.
More than 2,800 FBS scholarship athletes entered their names into the NCAA transfer database during the 2023-24 academic year. Excluding those who declined and those who turned professional, the final total number of transfers was 2,707. This means that approximately 25% of all FBS scholarship football players became free agents in a given year.
