Major winter storm expected in North Texas | FOX 26 Weather Update
Be prepared for a major winter storm impacting parts of Texas over the next few days. It looks like the Houston area will see mainly cold rain with a chance of a bit of sleet mixed in Thursday into Friday morning. However, if you are traveling to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, a winter storm watch is in effect from late Wednesday night into Friday night, with the possibility of several inches of snow along with ice accumulation and sleet. Tonight will be mostly clear and cold across Houston, with temperatures near freezing. Wednesday will be cloudy with a chance of rain during the day. Widespread rain will hit the Houston area on Thursday, with some heavy rain likely to continue into Friday morning. Sleet may mix with the rain at times, but no significant ice or snow is expected on Houston roads. However, due to the risk of 1 to 3 inches of rain and flooding of some roads, we have declared Thursday through Friday morning as Fox 26 Storm Warning days. Rain should end by Friday afternoon/evening. However, the temperature remains chilly. Look for highs in the low to mid 40s Wednesday through Friday and overnight lows in the mid 30s. A warming trend is expected this weekend, with highs expected to reach near 60 degrees by Sunday. There is a slight chance of rain. We will return on Sunday and stay until Tuesday.
