Rousing Weekend includes a member event with World Golf Hole of Faymart Mkite and golf course architect Roy Bechtol, who partnered in 2000 to design the club’s first 18 holes.
KERVILLE, Texas – While there have been many changes in the Comanch Trace over the past three years, the Peerless Golf Course and Lifestyle community has stood the test of time, set about an hour northwest of San Antonio in Texas Hill Country.
Over 300 members and invited guests will gather here from April 25-27 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 1,300-acre community and a sublime list of golf’s 27 holes and top shelf amenities.
All these facets combined to create and maintain the Comanche traces within the refined gems of the region, earning many acclaim, including one of the “Top 100 golf communities in America” and “The Best Master Planned Communities in the United States.”
The headline for the late April anniversary event was the golf scramble where the world’s Golf Hole of Faymart Mkite members, golf course architect and former senior long drive champion Roybesthor hit a tee shot on the fourth hole in each group.
Kite and Bechtol partnered with Randy Russell in 2000 with Fashion Comanche Trace’s original 18 holes. In 2008, nine more holes were added by the father-son team of Jay and Carter Morish.
Legacy Golf Properties acquired a Comanche trace in 2022 and subsequently strengthened the community’s appeal through a series of improvements and additions. Among them are a 5,000-square-foot fitness center, hill country tap houses with 15-acre practice facilities on the course, a pickleball court quartet, and an enhanced slate of club events tailored to the members’ lifestyles.
“Comanche traces only exceed 27 holes in world-class golf, with a lifestyle set in one of Texas’ most scenic environments.” “Our members and I are extremely grateful for what Tom and Roy created 25 years ago. We were honored that they joined us last weekend.
Kite said he returned to the Comanche traces and the celebration rekindled his love for his community and course.
“It was great to go back to the Comanche trace for the celebration,” Kite said. “The golf course has matured very well and it’s a joy to see us still enjoying the designs we put on the ground 25 years ago.”
Bechtol has been a frequent returnee to Comanche traces over the years and values his experience from course design and construction.
“This was one of the most magical journeys Kite-Bechtol-Russell has ever enjoyed while we were creating,” said Austin-based Bechtol, who has designed more than 90 golf courses in his vast career. “It was a seamless transition from raw stains to Hill Country gems. There are really three traits on the golf course. It was a blend of three land types.
Bettle said the construction of the original hole in the Comanche traces was part of a journey that the designers cherished.
“We all had a really good time on the two-hour drive from Austin to Kerrville, and we look forward to it,” he explained. “On the drive we talked about the days we had, what we learned and what we wanted to tweak. So it was a great personal journey for us to get to know each other and get excited about what we’re creating.”
When Comanche Trace debuted a quarter century ago, it was named one of the “five best new housing communities” in the country. The legacy has only become stronger, 25 years later, and by managing the properties of legacy golf –
“At Comanche Trace, we recognize that our members are not only choosing their community, but also investing in their heritage,” Held said. “It is our commitment to ensuring that all the elements here continue to be offered for generations. Once people experience life here, we never want to leave. That’s what’s so special.”
With three new home site phases, several spec houses under construction and a 2025 home tour scheduled for this fall, it’s time to explore and discover Comanche traces?
