SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have released body camera footage showing moments leading to fatal shooting by police following a foot pursuit, Reported by KSAT.
The March 16 incident began when officers tried to stop the vehicle and the driver was unable to hand it over, according to the report.
Police say the suspect eventually parked at a gas station and left the car with a bag and escaped on foot. The officer chased him into a residential area. There, the suspect can be seen jumping through several fences on body camera footage.
The suspect then fell while trying to jump onto the roof of the house, video shows. The officers tried to use Taser, but it had no effect. At that point, officers observed that the suspect was armed with a knife.
The second attempt to use the Taser also failed. Police said officers dropped the Taser on the ground and the suspect reached out to grab it. The suspect then advanced towards the officers and urged the officers to fire multiple times.
Reports state that the suspect was declared dead at the scene. Authorities later said he had a criminal record including possession of drugs, robbery and misuse of a vehicle.
The officer has been working for the San Antonio Police Station for four years. The incident remains under investigation, according to the report.
