December 19, 2024 – The University of Texas, San Antonio (UTSA) today shares the latest updates on the progress of the Texas Culture’s Foresighted Institute (ITC) Centennial 2068 initiative, with commitment to community collaboration and the Texas Historical Committee (THC) He emphasized the partnership with
As detailed in the Community Update in April, the ITC Museum paused operations in previous spaces in the Texas Pavilion earlier this year, and continued to explore permanent location options, Frost Prepared for moving to the tower. Since then, the museum has expanded its outreach at local schools, bringing demonstration items into classrooms, captivating longtime dottents to tell the story of Texas’ rich history. It also maintains its presence at various cultural festivals and events, providing opportunities for meaningful engagement with the community.
In October, THC voted in favor of designating the Texas Pavilion as a national landmark. The university is consistently aware of the historical significance of the Texas Pavilion and plans to celebrate its history through comprehensive documentation and storytelling at the new museum.
The university’s development plans continue to advance to support these efforts and to maximize and monetize resources to support both temporary and permanent homes at ITC Museums. This week, THC issued a demolition permit requested by UTSA to allow the outlined redevelopment plan for the Hemisfair campus.
As part of the process, UTSA will continue to partner with THC to ensure that the Texas Pavilion legacy is realized through future museum community engagement and digital displays. The city of San Antonio will also serve as an important partner in these efforts as UTSA works closely with the city and THC to confirm the history of Hemisfair ’68.
The redevelopment of the ITC Museum is part of UTSA’s larger vision for expansion in downtown San Antonio. Since 2015, UTSA registrations have grown by around 7,000 students. As part of the university’s ongoing campus planning efforts, the institution aims to increase enrollment to 10,000 downtown enrollments by 2028. UTSA’s academic and real estate investments in urban areas in San Antonio will continue to advance the university with future ITC museums. Important resources for the Downtown Community.
The ITC Museum is scheduled to reopen in the second half of 2025 at its temporary home at Frost Tower. With our eyes set in mind, the ITC Museum will explore new, collaborative and innovative ways to bring the stories of many Texas cultures back to life for generations of scholars and visitors. I’m dedicated.
