On March 24th, more than 60 Texans gathered at the State Capitol for the Sierra Club’s Texas Advocacy Day. Participants met with legislators, shared concerns about deducting environmental issues, and called for stronger policies to protect the future of air, water and clean energy in Texas.

The event brought together solid shows of Texans who are perfect for the involvement of environmental leaders, policy experts, community advocates and citizens, amplifying calls for immediate legislative action. Participants engaged in advocacy training, one-on-one meetings with lawmakers, and strong discussions on the future of Texas environmental policy.

“The reason I’m here today is because I’ve been a Texan for 67 years,” said Debbie Beir, a first-time Sierra Club Texas Advocacy Day attendee and lifelong advocate. “I love Texas. This is a great opportunity to come here with the Sierra Club, and I’m advocating for a safer, cleaner, healthier Texas… for our family.”

What’s next for the Texas Sierra Club?

Advocacy Day wasn’t just a one-day event. This was a catalyst for sustained advocacy throughout the legislative meeting. Sierra Club and its partners will continue this work throughout the session. The Sierra Club and its partners will continue to work with lawmakers and urge them to pass policies that prioritize the environment and public health.

“The Texans are deeply concerned about our water, affordable and reliable clean energy, and ensuring that legislators hear the concerns of everyday people. This is just the beginning. The energy and commitment we saw this week show that people don’t own our voices to the chorus of pay lobbyists and special interests.

Now we need your help pushing to lawmakers to support these bills:

Join environmental advocacy

Advocacy doesn’t have to be intimidating. We provide training opportunities, educational materials and continuous one-on-one guidance throughout the legislative session, so you can speak with confidence about the issues that matter most to you.

No one fights alone. We want Texas to unite and prioritize people over polluters. An environment that exceeds profits. The power of change is in our hands, and together we make a difference.
