If you’re fascinated by old crime stories or love to learn about cold cases that are solved, there’s something new in Texas that you’d like to know.
The incident began in 1993 in Austin, Texas.
According to KXAN, there was a 13-year-old girl who returned on November 22, 1993, and reported sexual assault to Austin police.
Obviously, we didn’t have the technology to utilize the technology we’re doing now, but DNA evidence was collected during the test.
Most people related to this incident wanted the man to be held responsible, but for a long time they began to give up hope.
The DNA kit was finally sent for testing
It took years, but it was finally sent in July 2020 for testing with the kit combined DNA index system (CODIS). The program compares DNA profiles from forensic cases with offenders who are usually found guilty of an inherently violent or sexual offence.
The test identified the suspect as Douglas Baden, now 66 years old. His DNA samples were in the file from another case.
To confirm the findings, a search warrant was issued to collect more DNA from Baden.
Four days to find the suspect guilty
The trial didn’t take long as Baden was found guilty of Birden’s charges just four days later in the court, and the ju judge was found guilty of Birden’s charges.
Baden was then sentenced to 30 years in 1993 for his actions.
Let’s make this a lesson for everyone. If you commit a crime in Texas, even if it comes years after the crime was committed, you will have to pay for the consequences.
