No matter what happens against Texas A&M, the Longhorns have a good chance to advance to the CFP, but it became clear that Saturday’s matchup meant more than just a CFP and SEC title berth. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian fully embraces the importance of the rivalry, but made it clear Monday that the team needs to remain focused on execution after the emotion of the opening kickoff wears off.
“I definitely acknowledge that. And rivalries are great because of the build-up, and the excitement, and all that. But at the end of the day, winning football games is about execution, and the team and the team. It’s important to play.” Proper physicality is about how you play in important moments and special situations, and really good preparation will help you perform well in those situations. I think so,” Sarkisian said. “So as much as we acknowledge the rivalry, as much as we acknowledge that we’re trying to play to get to the SEC Championship Game, we’re going to get right back to today and we’re going to power through.” What we need to do today is a positive performance and it’s not new for us. ”
Texas and Texas A&M will kick off from Kyle Field at 6:30 p.m. CT.
