Much of Texas is dry to start 2025, even until fall 2024. The worst and most prolonged drought occurs in West Texas. The drought is certainly not coming to an end considering the extreme and exceptional drought, but at least some relief is ongoing.

The week is primarily dry, with only uneven thunderstorms in southeastern Texas and far south Texas on Monday. On Tuesday, it appears to be dry throughout the state at least during the day.
On Tuesday night, low-pressure areas will occur along a stagnant front in northern Texas. This will cause rain and the rain may continue on Wednesday. However, this will be over by Wednesday evening. This will be completely separate from the storms that will affect other parts of Texas starting Wednesday night.
Rain and thunderstorms form in Mexico and travel to the area around the Rio Grande River and South Texas by Wednesday night or Thursday morning. One of the keys to this storm is slow movement, which means that the rain will fall for a long period of time.

“Rain is certainly beneficial, but it only involves putting a slight dent in the long-term drought, but it’s a bit helpful,” said Accuweather meteorologist Grady Gilman. “We need multiple events like this to ease the drought,” added Gilman.
It’s still raining a few days away, and the exact amount is still a bit of a problem, but it could potentially cause at least 1-2 inches of rain to the heaviest and most sustained locations.
Several factors come together to create rain.

“Atmospheric energy travelling the southwest will collide with a surge in moisture from the Gulf Coast, leading to a wide and luxurious downpour in Texas, west and south on Thursday,” Gilman explained.
The storm moves slowly, but the rain begins to expand elsewhere and ends the week.
“The downpour will be trekking through Texas on Friday night, further east in the centre towards Arcratex Legion,” Gilman said.
Even with little or no rain, Gilman said increased humidity reduces the risk of fire.
Rain will leave Texas by Saturday, but this could be a complete storm with snow, ice and bad weather as it moves north and east over the weekend.
