Texas A&M is having an interesting week of practice.
There are definitely questions about the position going forward after Marcel Reed’s offense took a second-half avalanche against LSU.
Reed’s pitching ability was the missing piece on the offensive line, but the team was able to get by during Connor Weigman’s absence.
Here are three stories to watch before Saturday’s game against the Shamcocks.
Reid led a ferocious rally against LSU after trailing 17-7 at halftime. Weigman and the offense had no rhythm.
After the turnover, Mike Elko hit the reset button and put Reed into the game. All Reed needed was one play.
No disrespect towards Weigman, the offense just needed to try something different. If they had done the same thing, they probably would have run a lot more and become more predictable.
Reed made an instant difference. He deserves attention as a QB1 going forward.
For Aggie fans worried about him throwing the football, that’s understandable. But ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit didn’t seem to agree, saying at the end of the game that Reed had an accurate arm. His long bomb against Noah Thomas proves it all.
It will be interesting to see who starts early Saturday afternoon.
Aggie fans, please don’t take this game lightly.
The Shamcocks are 4-3 on the season, but that doesn’t matter. South Carolina has one of the most formidable defenses in the world.
Exhibit A: Watch the Alabama game. Alabama wasn’t at its best against the Gamecocks and was able to force the Crimson Tide into turnovers in the game.
They chase the quarterback and the secondary is smart and capable of hard tackling.
In this case, the record doesn’t matter considering it’s a Saturday night road game on ABC.
Shamcocks are closing in on an elite win. One thing Aggie fans remember is that the Shamcocks laid an egg with Ole Miss, who was ranked No. 12 at the time. The Aggies also have a game within them (as stated in the first headline). So this is going to be an interesting event.
The Aggies remain a slight favorite in Las Vegas.
Even though the Aggies have looked like the better team all year, bettors know this could be a tough one.
The Aggies could break that cover with a field goal or a touchdown if they were leading late in the fourth.
If you bet on the cover, you’ll understand. This is a night game for South Carolina, and this is definitely a game that could go both ways.
The Siamese cox will continue to get closer, but the only question is how close.
