The latest poll from the University of Texas and Texas Politics Project shows Donald Trump and Ted Cruz holding healthy leads in their respective races.
Among Texas presidential voters, Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris 51% to 46%. In the Senate race, Republican incumbent Ted Cruz holds a 7-point lead among likely voters over his Democratic challenger, Rep. Colin Allred (51% to 44%).
The lead Trump holds in this poll is smaller than the 6.5 point lead that 538.com’s Nate Silver gave him. But the seven-point lead Mr. Cruz now enjoys is the largest we’ve seen since the summer, when some polls were conducted. I got him up by 9 o’clock.
According to pollsters James Henson and Joshua Blank, “Most Texas voters are comfortable with the presidential race and say they are unlikely to change their minds,” in the final weeks of the campaign. Almost four in five (79%) voters say they are “not at all likely” to change their minds before voting. The remaining 9% said they were “not very likely” to change their choice. 6% said they were “very likely” to change their mind and 6% were “somewhat likely” to change their mind. Among the small number of voters who support a third-party candidate in the presidential election, more Trump supporters (83%) say they are “unlikely” to change their minds than Harris supporters (79%). Slightly more likely, nearly a third (32%). ) say they are somewhat (28%) or very likely (4%) likely to change their mind before voting. ”
