CBS Sports has released the latest version of its 2025 NFL mock draft, with two Texas Longhorns in the projected first round.
Columnist Ryan Wilson believes Miami quarterback Cam Ward will be taken by the New York Giants with the No. 1 overall pick. The first Texas player on the list is offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. Despite being a junior, Banks is expected to declare for next year’s draft.
Banks will join former Longhorn T’Vondre Sweat, who was drafted by the Titans in 2024 and recently made headlines against the Cincinnati Bengals.
“Kelvin Banks Jr. was my OT1 over the summer and nothing changed,” Wilson wrote. “He’s athletic, has good feet, plays with balance and power, and uses his hands well. Right now he’s better in pass pro than he is against the run, but he’s close to it. And he’s going to get better.” It will be.β
No other Longhorn’s name is expected to be called until the 27th pick. Wilson predicted that senior cornerback Jahday Barron would be selected by the Green Bay Packers as one of the final picks in the first round. Barron and Banks were named FWAA All-Americans after the 2024 regular season.
“As rich as it sounds, Jafde Baron sometimes shines in a way that reminds me of Brian Branch. He’s one of the smartest players on the field, always around the ball and when a play needs to be made. β Wilson wrote. βHe can line up in the box, in the slot or on the outside and is an effective blitzer off the edge, which is an asset in the run game.β
The 2025 NFL Draft will be the 90th. The draft will be held in Washington, D.C., from April 26th to 27th, and the Packers will select in 2023.
