Trinity Byers and Lexi Missimo are childhood friends and both make history in the Texas football program.
Neither is new to the MAC Herman Award: Missimo led the nation with 72 points in 2023 and reached the semifinals, and was also nominated for the first time in 2022. Byers reached the semifinals in 2022, making Texas one of just two programs in the nation with two former semifinalists.
The MAC Herman Trophy is an award presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club to recognize the best female soccer player in the country. There are 44 players on the shortlist. Six of the current nominees are 2023 semifinalists, including Missimo.
The list will be narrowed down to 15 names when All-American voting closes on Dec. 15, then narrowed down to three finalists. The winner will be announced in St. Louis on Jan. 3, 2025.
The two Solar SC alumni already have their names on the scoring list for the 2024 season. Missimo scored Texas State’s first SEC goal on an assist from Byers, who broke Texas’ all-time goals record in an NCAA Tournament first-round game against Lamar. She’s also looking to score a goal herself on Aug. 18 against Cal State Bakersfield.
If Byars records a hat trick against the Roadrunners, he will become the first student-athlete in program history to reach 50 goals. Byars’ current goal tally is 47 goals in 102 attempts.
