Universal City has been recognized by the Texas Water Utilities Association for having the best-tasting drinking water in the groundwater category. City officials celebrated the award at the Nov. 6 City Council meeting.

Brandon Peterson, assistant director of public works, said there are six regions in the state vying for the award, and Universal City represents the Armadillo region, which covers Bexar, Guadalupe and Comal counties. Ta.
Eligibility for the contest includes having no violations from the Texas Environmental Commission within the past year and having a treatment facility.
Like other water utilities in the area, Universal City pumps water from the Edwards Aquifer and treats it at city facilities. Peterson said Universal City’s water is treated with fluoride.
City Manager Kim Turner said each water distribution company draws water from the Edwards Aquifer, but differences in shelf formation within the area can result in differences in water quality.
Turner said the award is a reflection of the work city officials do to ensure quality water and services for residents of Universal City.

This is not the first time Universal City has been recognized for having high-quality water, having received a similar award in 2020, Public Works Director Randy Lunsman said.
The city also placed second in the American Water Works Association’s National Water Quality Competition in 2015.
