Colin Simmons has been one of Texas’ breakout defensive stars through five games, and arguably one of the nation’s breakout stars. The EDGE rusher came into his own in his first SEC conference game against Mississippi State with two sacks, seven tackles for loss, and one forced fumble in a 35-13 win, with the 245-pound man firmly in his element. It has been proven that
The freshman is a one-man wrecking crew on the line, as evidenced by the quick replay of a sack of Mississippi State quarterback Chris Person.

Still, as dominant as Simmons has been in recent weeks, he may have lost sight of the standard protocol for a freshman in the locker room. He doesn’t say anything, especially when asked about upcoming rivalry games.
After Texas’ win over Mississippi State, Simmons was asked about playing against Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, the game following Texas’ bye week in Dallas.
Simmons said of the Sooners:

No, Colin! Things went very well! Simmons’ comments are almost certain to draw the ire of Texas coach Steve Sarkisian. What an injured Oklahoma State team needed most was extra motivation to beat the team currently ranked No. 2 in the nation.
Note to Simmons: From now on, never underestimate your opponent publicly, especially if the opponent is a long-time nemesis. And never admit that you think you’re trying to control them. Even if you follow through, the comment is a loss to the person making the comment…especially if you’re a new student.
